I have worked at Tower Insurance, as a member of the Digital Team for almost the past five years. In my time here, I’ve been exposed to a number of different technologies & challenges, and I’ve met some truly awesome people doing great things.
Beginning here at the start of 2014, my first role as Digital Coordinator had a pretty broad list of responsibilities (it was a pretty small team at the time). I did a number of things, from looking after Digital Analytics and reporting (GA & GTM), to organising and coordinating WordPress site builds, content management of our main site, trying to upskill myself in HTML / CSS & JavaScript, while getting involved in volunteering for our social committee to help organise parties, fundraising and events, such as Round the Bays. The last few years at Tower, through Round the Bays, we’ve managed to raise around $2,000 per year to donate to various charities around Auckland.
I’m now in the role of Digital Developer, where I focus mainly on building out new functionality for our tower.co.nz CMS – Sitecore, built in C# & .Net. I’ve built a number of components for the site, and I constantly work with our stakeholders and design team to get the best possible outcome for our customers.
Below are some of the solutions that I’ve been involved with, and built at Tower.
I built a number of reusable components on the home page of www.tower.co.nz, including the carousel slider, the home page quite selector. I also utilized the Google Maps API to help build a Recommended Repairers section of the site, among numerous other components throughout the site. Over the years of managing the content on this site, and going through numerous redesign and migration projects, I’ve gained the confidence and experience to contribute to a number of the items on this site, and the overall solution design.
National Pacific Insurance in Western Samoa is a custom-built WordPress theme which I designed (based on a previous design of www.tower.co.nz) and built to host internally at Tower. I coordinated the rebuild of this site with key stakeholders, all while redesigning and building custom-theme functionality to make it easy to use for content managers.
Tower Insurance in Vanuatu is also a site built with in WordPress that I created, using an existing theme and child-theme functionality. I redesigned the theme to match a previous version of tower.co.nz, and coordinated the content sign off phase, much like I did with the National Pacific Insurance in Western Samoa site. All up there are eight different websites that are built for Tower’s Pacific partners, which I have managed, built, designed and maintained over the past few years.
