Project Overview
I designed and built Ride Rotorua Store, an ecommerce website for the Ride Rotorua team.
The project involved creating a professional online store using WordPress, Elementor, and WooCommerce, with a focus on product presentation, usability, search visibility, content management, and giving the team the ability to update the website themselves.
This was not just a website build. It also included custom JavaScript enhancements, content support, image optimisation, SEO setup, ecommerce configuration, mentoring, and documentation so the team could confidently manage parts of the site after launch.
What I Built
The website was designed to provide Ride Rotorua with a flexible ecommerce platform that could support product sales and ongoing content updates.
The project included:
- Full WordPress website setup
- Website design and layout using Elementor
- WooCommerce ecommerce setup
- Product and category structure
- Custom JavaScript functionality
- Content support and page refinement
- Image optimisation
- SEO best-practice implementation
- Mobile-responsive design
- Website launch support
- WordPress mentoring for the Ride Rotorua team
- Documentation for editing and managing website content
The goal was to create a website that looked professional, worked well for customers, and could be maintained by the team without needing developer involvement for every small content change.
WordPress, Elementor and WooCommerce
The site was built using WordPress and Elementor, with WooCommerce providing the ecommerce functionality.
This gave the business a flexible content management platform while also supporting product sales through a familiar WordPress-based admin experience.
Elementor allowed the site to be designed and structured visually, while WooCommerce provided the product catalogue, cart, and checkout foundation needed for the online store.
Custom JavaScript Enhancements
A key part of the project involved implementing custom JavaScript throughout the site.
These custom elements helped refine the user experience, improve interactions, and support specific design or behaviour requirements that were not available through standard WordPress or Elementor functionality alone.
This allowed the website to feel more tailored and polished rather than relying entirely on out-of-the-box components.
Content and Image Optimisation
I also helped with content structure and image optimisation across the website.
For an ecommerce site, clear product content and strong visuals are important. The site needed to present products in a way that was easy to browse, visually appealing, and fast enough to provide a good customer experience.
Image optimisation helped improve performance while still allowing the site to use strong visual content.
This was particularly important for both user experience and SEO.
SEO Foundations
As part of the build, I implemented SEO best practices across the site.
This included supporting clean page structure, product and category organisation, content clarity, image optimisation, and search-friendly setup.
The aim was to give the site a strong foundation for organic visibility and make it easier for customers to find the store online.
Mentoring and Documentation
One of the most important parts of this project was helping the Ride Rotorua team become more confident using WordPress themselves.
I provided mentoring and documentation to help the team understand how to edit content, update pages, and manage parts of the website without needing to rely on a developer for every change.
This gave the team more ownership over the site and made the platform more practical for day-to-day use.
Outcome
The final result was a professional WordPress and WooCommerce ecommerce website that supports Ride Rotorua’s online store and gives the team a flexible platform for ongoing updates.
The project delivered:
- A fully built WordPress and Elementor website
- WooCommerce ecommerce functionality
- Custom JavaScript enhancements
- Product and content structure support
- SEO best-practice implementation
- Image optimisation
- Mobile-responsive design
- Team mentoring and WordPress documentation
- A website the client can continue to manage and grow
This project was a good example of combining ecommerce development, custom front-end behaviour, SEO, content support, and client enablement.
It was not just about launching an online store. It was about giving the Ride Rotorua team a practical ecommerce platform and the confidence to manage their own content going forward.
