Project Overview
I designed, built, and continue to support NZ In Pictures, an ecommerce website for selling framed and digital images of iconic New Zealand landscape photography.
The goal of the project was to create a visually rich website that could showcase photography beautifully while also supporting online sales, SEO, image performance, landing pages, content updates, email support, and social media activity.
Because the site is built around high-quality landscape photography, the design needed to balance visual impact with performance. Large images are essential to the customer experience, but they also need to be optimised carefully so the website remains fast, searchable, and easy to use.
What I Built
The website was built using WordPress and Elementor, with WooCommerce configured to support ecommerce sales of framed and digital photography products.
The project included:
- Full WordPress website design and development
- Elementor-based page layouts
- WooCommerce ecommerce setup
- Product catalogue structure for framed and digital images
- Custom JavaScript elements within the theme
- Dynamic landing pages
- Ongoing content updates
- Image optimisation for SEO and performance
- WebP conversion automation
- SEO best-practice implementation
- Google Analytics setup
- Google Business Profile setup and support
- Email support and configuration assistance
- Social media support
The result is a website that acts as both a portfolio for New Zealand landscape photography and a practical ecommerce platform for selling physical and digital products.
Visual Design and Photography Presentation
The most important part of the website was presenting the photography in a way that felt premium, clean, and engaging.
The design needed to let the images lead. Rather than overcomplicating the interface, the site was built to place the photography front and centre, giving visitors a clear way to browse images, explore collections, and purchase framed or digital versions.
This required careful consideration of page layout, image presentation, product structure, and the overall browsing experience.
The site needed to feel like a gallery, but still behave like an ecommerce store.
WordPress, Elementor and Custom JavaScript
The site was developed using WordPress and Elementor, giving the client a flexible platform for managing pages, products, and content.
In addition to standard Elementor layouts, I also implemented a number of customised JavaScript elements within the theme to improve the experience and support specific design or interaction requirements.
This allowed the site to go beyond a standard template build while still keeping the content manageable through WordPress.
WooCommerce Ecommerce Setup
WooCommerce was used to support product sales across the site.
The ecommerce setup needed to support both framed and digital photography products, giving customers a way to browse, select, and purchase images online.
This included setting up the product structure, presenting product information clearly, and making sure the shopping experience worked cleanly across desktop and mobile devices.
Because photography products rely heavily on visual appeal, the ecommerce experience needed to be simple, attractive, and trustworthy.
Image Optimisation and WebP Automation
A major part of the ongoing work for NZ In Pictures has been image optimisation.
Photography websites naturally rely on large, high-quality images, but large image files can impact page speed and SEO if not handled properly. To support performance, I worked on optimising images and implemented WebP conversion automation.
This helps reduce file sizes while maintaining visual quality, improving load times and giving the site stronger technical SEO foundations.
Image optimisation was especially important for this project because the images are not just supporting content — they are the product.
SEO and Dynamic Landing Pages
I also worked on SEO best-practice implementation across the site.
This included improving page structure, optimising content, supporting image SEO, and building dynamic landing pages to help the site target relevant photography, location, and product-based search terms.
The dynamic landing page approach helps create more focused entry points for visitors, allowing the site to present relevant content around specific themes, collections, or locations.
For a site built around New Zealand landscape photography, this is particularly valuable because people may search by region, landmark, scenery type, or product format.
Ongoing Content Updates
NZ In Pictures is not a one-off build. I continue to help keep the website content updated.
This includes updating imagery, refining pages, supporting new products or collections, and helping the site stay current as the photography catalogue grows.
Ongoing content work is important for ecommerce and SEO because the site needs to stay active, accurate, and relevant over time.
Google, Email and Social Media Support
Alongside the website itself, I also helped with the broader digital setup and support.
This included:
- Google Analytics setup
- Google Business Profile setup
- Help with email configuration and support
- Social media assistance
- General digital presence support
These supporting pieces help the website function as part of a wider online presence, rather than existing as an isolated ecommerce store.
Outcome
The final result is a visually focused ecommerce website that allows NZ In Pictures to showcase and sell New Zealand landscape photography online.
The project delivered:
- A professional WordPress and Elementor website
- WooCommerce ecommerce functionality
- Support for framed and digital image products
- Custom JavaScript enhancements
- Dynamic landing pages
- Ongoing content updates
- Image SEO and WebP optimisation
- Google Analytics and Google Business setup
- Email and social media support
- A scalable platform for growing the photography catalogue
This project was a strong example of combining visual design, ecommerce, technical SEO, content management, and ongoing digital support.
It was not just about building a website. It was about creating a digital platform that could present iconic New Zealand photography beautifully, support online sales, and grow over time.
